What did they raise a banner for? I didn't hear what it was for? Like a team anniversary or something?

It's the sheer level of arrogance and pomposity that oozes from every nook and cranny of this organization. Hanging a meaningless banner is not only proof of this, it's the epitome of the entire organization and it's fan base.

My question is how do the players stand for this? No way I'm on a team and we are hanging that banner.

The thing is the average fan will not know how embarrassing this banner is. Make the fans think you are exceptional when you have not accomplished anything that season.

Good marketing.

The Preds are poised to compete for the most points in the Western conference again this year... Does the league recognize that accomplishment? refresh me... what is the trophy for that called? Is it 'The Content to be good until April' trophy? the 'We can't win big playoff series' trophy?

Congrats Preds, you are in fine form and in position to compete again for the coveted Western conference points lead.

Does this mean that the Preds will not allow fans wearing Jets jerseys into the building now?

McCann works for the Preds - he can’t bite the hand that feeds.

Just a few points:

a) 0-9 on the PP is brutal. The Preds were basically on a PP for the entire 2nd period. At one point, they had a 5 on 3 for nearly two minutes.

b) Subban looked disinterested. Wasn’t a good look for him in Montreal either.

c) No one really cares about Nashville’s banners. The Preds just raised them the other night, the joke is still fresh. The problem is either you don’t get the joke or you do get it... but your pay cheque.

Not saying the Jet's did not deserve most of the penalties last night but I have to say the Ref's lost control of the game. Too bad, the first period was awesome to watch

haha, I didn't realize that's what they did. Yeah, they're (frank)in retarded. Being a nashville writer and being that much of a homer is embarrassing for this writer...

Don't know if I'm missing something in the post you quoted, but the Preds DID win the Presidents Trophy. They're not the first team to have banners for that type of accomplishments.

Personally, I thought the Presidents Trophy banner was enough, because when you win it, it means you won everything else in the regular season, so no need for those other banners. But like someone else posted earlier, other teams had banner ceremonies for division titles too, so it's no big deal.

The joke is the "Regular Season Western Conference Champions" Banner.

There's already a President's Trophy banner, so the 3rd one is pretty excessive, especialy considering that the title doesn't even exist.

It's like getting a trophy for having the top +/- in the Central Division amongst left wingers who played <10min/gm.

(For those curious, I looked it up. The winner would be Curtis Mackenzie of Dallas, at +3.)

Thanks for deleting my post... Just an FYI, there WAS a little tongue in cheek going on there for those Preds fans that couldn't grasp the actual context of the joke.

The whole deal with the banners is silly on both ends. It's nothing to get overly worked up or defensive about. The banner raising was a fun moment for the fans in attendance, but I recorded the game and cared so little that I fast-forwarded through it. I'm much more interested in seeing my team holding up trophies at the end of the season, than raising pieces of cloth in October. I take no issue with any fan enjoying the moment though. I did have to scratch my head when I saw the 'Regular Season Champs' banner... Don't really care for that one, but whatever. Not sure what management was thinking, but I lean towards chalking it up to a non-traditional market experiencing winning at a high level for the first time. Possibly a little too eager to fill the rafters, but they'll realize eventually that you can't catch up to the original six in just a couple of years. I wouldn't be surprised if that banner comes down eventually, especially if the Preds put up a few more in the coming years.

Loved the game with Winnipeg Thursday night. Bizarre but entertaining. I almost wish we could play those guys ten times a year, but I don't think that would be good for my sanity.
